The scene begins with L. B. Jefferies looking at Mrs. Lonelyhearts through his window. We can see that Mrs. Lonelyhearts is setting up a romantic dinner, although no one is coming to dinner with her. She starts to act like someone is with her. Then, she raises a wine glass, like she is cheering with someone. Meanwhile, Jefferies raises another glass from his flat, like he is cheering with her.
We’ve chosen this scene because we can see a more human and empathic side of the protagonist contrasting with what we had seen of him so far in the movie and also with how he criticizes his neighbors in general.
